Landscape & Urban Gallery

I enjoy painting landscapes and particularly urban scenes. One of the aspects I love about painting is how it encourages you to look for the beauty and interest in whatever surrounds you. To quote Confucius ‘Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it’.

Liverpool evening glow (oil, 2024)

I saw this beautiful scene one October evening walking home along the River Mersey, with the setting sun lighting up the Liverpool waterfront. whilst dark heavy rainclouds lay overhead in stark contrast. When learning about colour, one striking fact is that colour is not an objective physical property of objects, but reflections that enter our eyes which are then interpreted by the brain. An illusion. Which explains why colours change under different conditions. On this particular evening the range of colours from golds through to purples was amazing. Prints available in the shop.

East Float, Wallasey docks (oil, 2024)

I saw this scene on Boxing Day 2024 walking along the dockside on the way to see a Tranmere match, concerned that the match would be abandoned due to foggy conditions. On the East Float, on of the docks separating Wallasey from Birkenhead, was this scene of the abandoned Central Hydraulic Tower and a partially sunken boat. The match was abandoned due to the fog.  Prints available in the shop.
